As I am a Hongkonger, Hong Kong students can't learn about Modern History from the education system. Since the Hong Kong Education Bureau excludes the modern history, in order to don't let Hongkongers to understand the politics. Therefore, our history book stop at "1949, People Republic of China was established" .

This is the first time I've come across your channel. Firstly, thank you for the English subtitles (I hope the translator works well here!). I was looking around at what the neighbouring countries thought of the current situation and you give a more in-depth look of the history (I'm from UK). For the most part it is accurate.
However, there are certain details and questions that you have missed out that you can take into consideration (it could be a limitation of the video length):

What is the worry that China has?
And what the concerns of the HK people are?

The situation of HK deteriorated very rapidly because of the housing problem. China has tried to resolve these issues multiple times in recent decades by attempting to implement laws that would reform the real estate sector. In China no developer is allowed to hold onto land without development. Due to the freedom of capital in HK - the tycoons (essentially oligarchs) are able to hold onto land without the need to develop it for many years which inflated the prices of property considerably, their influence has risen above the politics in HK.

Just as a side note, HK actually has a very big rural and urban land ratio, there is plenty of space to develop but unable to do so because of the ownership of land.
This is the where the CCP has a problem - in the mainland capital CANNOT rise above politics but in HK capital has already risen above politics. The real winners of "universal suffrage" or "HK independence" are the tycoons. Despite political reform within the HK politburo, this leaves people in an awkward position - their income is not low enough to be subsidised by the government but it's not high enough to purchase property either. A lot of blame is deflected onto the local government for not being able to resolve this issue, the youths are not happy with their future. And the other part of the blame goes towards Chinese people for 'taking their jobs' and 'being able to stay in these apartments' because of their newfound wealth from the mainland: they have it better than a lot of the local HK people; there is massive amounts discrimination - I think Japanese people can relate to this with mainlanders being rude and are culturally unaware of their misconducts.

From a macro point of view, the easiest and quickest way to resolve all these issues is to have a land reform law which allows the CCP to overrule this ability to hold onto land indefinitely. However, it comes at a cost of allowing CCP intervention in which the people are absolutely against (due to all the reasons you stated in your video), their track record in the past has so far been... controversial to say the least. So you have this balancing act - CCP on one side trying to resolve HK's issues and the other side of the protestors that don't want CCP intervention. This tension has just been growing and growing until the events of the protests/riots we see today, and I've got a feeling that it'll become worse as foreign intervention comes in - this is seen as a containment strategy from the West by the CCP, hence the response with new laws of the National Security policy. While the pro-democracy people see it as another way of chipping away at free speech.

I'm afraid that the situation is a lot more complicated than "free speech" or "democracy" or "reunification with Taiwan" - even if HK remained autonomous or even independent, it still wouldn't resolve the key issues. While freedom of speech + democracy are part of the issue and it should rightfully be debated - it actually masks many layers of the real problem. If you look into the comments of the Singapore prime minister - he states that the CCP emphasises the ONE country over the two systems too much (chipping away at free speech), and HK citizens emphasises the TWO systems over the one country system too much (unable to see the bigger picture).

I think responsible governance is important with the need of a counterbalance to keep power in check. From the early days, these protests have evolved turning from pro-democracy to just straight out discrimination and terrorism towards other people for even disagreeing with their actions.

Only time will tell... But I hope these differences can settle because I have many friends that are in these two regions... I know it's a long post and it's in English but curiosity got me wondering what the Japanese thought about the situation! :D
