I posted this on FB, giving some explanation on Mexican sweets.
"... I do have to say some are for an acquired taste.
The Pelon Pelo Rico (the first one in the push-up tube) and the spoon one are made of tamarind paste not plum, with a bit of chili powder; the one you said it's salt, it's because it is, but it has also lemon powder. They ones you said look like onsen manju are part of the traditional (handmade) candy, they are made from sweetened milk, and they are truly sweet for some people.
Our "candy" is mostly sweet and spicy, with much of it tamarind-based. But we do have also fruit and seed based. I hope one day you get to try all of them."
